Cabinet Departments
The 15 executive departments whose Secretaries form the President's Cabinet. Each is led by a Senate-confirmed Secretary (or, for Justice, the Attorney General) and oversees major bureaus and agencies.
Independent Agencies
Federal agencies that exist outside the 15 Cabinet departments: regulators, government corporations, intelligence agencies, and government-sponsored enterprises that report directly to the President or operate at arm's length.
