The M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System is the Army's heavy, tracked rocket artillery platform, carrying twelve 227mm GMLRS rockets or two ATACMS/PrSM missiles on a Bradley-derived chassis. The M270A2 variant brings the fleet up to modern HIMARS-equivalent fire control, an improved armored cab, and the more powerful Common Fire Control System.
Although HIMARS captures more attention for its strategic mobility, the M270 retains twice the launcher load of a HIMARS truck and remains valuable for heavier divisional and corps-level fire missions. Allied operators in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Norway have all undertaken A2 upgrades.
