The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System mounts a six-pack of GMLRS rockets or a single ATACMS (or now PrSM) missile on a five-ton truck chassis, trading the M270's larger payload for strategic air-lift compatibility and superior road mobility.
HIMARS gained global prominence during Ukrainian use from 2022 onward, where it struck Russian command posts, ammunition depots, and logistics hubs far behind the front line. It has become synonymous with precision deep fires.
Range and payload continue to grow through the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), which gives a HIMARS battery the ability to service targets beyond 500 kilometers.
