The M777 is the U.S. Army and Marine Corps' standard 155mm towed howitzer, replacing the heavier M198 with a titanium construction that cuts weight by roughly 40 percent and allows the piece to be sling-loaded under a CH-47 Chinook or MV-22 Osprey. Digital fire control integrates INS/GPS for rapid emplacement and first-round fire-for-effect.
The M777 is produced by BAE Systems at Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Barrow-in-Furness in the United Kingdom. More than 1,000 guns are in service globally and the weapon has been supplied in large numbers to Ukraine since 2022, together with M982 Excalibur precision-guided rounds and course-corrected M1156 fuzes.
