The M119 is the U.S. Army's light 105mm towed howitzer, a licensed derivative of the British L118 Light Gun. Its lower weight compared to the M777 makes it the organic artillery piece of Infantry Brigade Combat Teams and airborne formations, including the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions where it can be air-dropped or sling-loaded.
The current M119A3 variant fields a digital fire control system and inertial navigation unit, modernizing the weapon's ballistic computer and eliminating the need for separate ground-based aiming references. The howitzer has been fielded extensively to Ukraine alongside the heavier M777.
