The Tomahawk is a subsonic, low-flying, long-range cruise missile. Current Block V variants extend range beyond 1,000 nautical miles and reintroduce an anti-ship capability (Block Va Maritime Strike Tomahawk) lost when the original TASM was retired.

The missile is launched from surface combatants (Mk 41 VLS), submarines (through torpedo tubes or vertical launch systems), and the land-based Typhon/Mid-Range Capability Army battery. Tomahawk remains the U.S. long-range strike weapon of choice for both conventional crisis strikes and opening salvos of major conflicts.
