The CH-47 Chinook is the Army's primary heavy-lift helicopter, distinguished by its tandem-rotor layout. It can carry 36 troops, sling-load 26,000 pounds, and operate in hot-and-high environments that defeat single-rotor designs.
The CH-47F Block II upgrade introduces a new rotor system, improved transmission, and airframe improvements that raise payload by 4,000 pounds and extend the platform well into the 2050s. MH-47G variants support U.S. Special Operations Command.
