The BGM-71 Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wire-guided missile is the United States' long-serving heavy anti-tank missile, fielded since 1970 on Bradley fighting vehicles, Stryker Anti-Tank Guided Missile Vehicles, Cobra helicopters, and HMMWV-mounted ITAS launchers. The current TOW 2B Aero variant employs top-attack guidance against modern armor.
The wireline guidance link was replaced in the Radio Frequency (RF) variants of the 2000s, removing the fragile trailing wire. TOW production continues in modest volume to support foreign military sales even as the Javelin and the Joint Air-to-Ground Missile take over its core roles in U.S. forces.
