The AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missile replaces legacy Hellfire and, in some roles, TOW missiles with a dual-mode guidance section that combines semi-active laser homing with millimeter-wave radar seeking. The dual seeker lets a single weapon prosecute laser-designated targets in clear conditions and fire-and-forget targets through smoke, dust, and weather.
JAGM is integrated on the AH-64E Apache and AH-1Z Viper and is being extended to the MQ-1C Gray Eagle and other unmanned platforms. The longer-range JAGM-MR variant nearly doubles the effective engagement range of baseline Hellfire and is being fielded to support distributed air-ground operations.
