The M2 Bradley is a tracked infantry fighting vehicle designed to transport infantry into battle and provide direct fire support. It carries a three-person crew plus six dismounts and mounts a 25mm M242 Bushmaster chain gun, a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and a TOW anti-tank missile launcher.
The Bradley has been continuously upgraded through the A1, A2, A3, and current A4 variants, each adding improved armor packages, digital fire control, and commander's independent thermal viewer. Combat use in Desert Storm, Iraq, and extensive deployments to Ukraine have validated the design's survivability and lethality.
The Army's XM30 Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle program is intended as the Bradley's eventual replacement, with American Rheinmetall Vehicles selected in 2023 for continued development.
