The AGM-114 Hellfire is the workhorse precision strike missile of U.S. rotary-wing and unmanned aviation, carried by the AH-64 Apache, AH-1Z Viper, MH-60R/S, MQ-1C Gray Eagle, and MQ-9 Reaper among others. Multiple seekers and warheads have been produced across its life, including semi-active laser guidance, millimeter-wave radar (Longbow), and the AGM-114R multi-purpose variant that unified several prior warhead configurations.
The AGM-114R9X 'Ninja' variant replaces the explosive warhead with six pop-out blades to kill a single individual while minimizing collateral damage and has been used in several high-profile counterterrorism strikes. The Army's Joint Air-to-Ground Missile is the long-term replacement, although Hellfire production continues for foreign military sales.
