The UGM-133A Trident II D5 is the submarine-launched ballistic missile carried by U.S. Ohio-class SSBNs, future Columbia-class SSBNs, and U.K. Vanguard-class submarines. Each missile can carry up to eight MIRVed warheads across a range exceeding 7,500 miles with exceptional accuracy.
The Trident II D5 Life Extension (D5LE) program has been under way since 2008 to keep the missile operational through 2042 on Ohio and into initial Columbia deployment. A D5LE2 follow-on program is currently in development.
