The LGM-35 Sentinel is the planned replacement for the LGM-30G Minuteman III as the silo-based leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. The program includes not only the missile itself but a comprehensive overhaul of the command-and-control infrastructure and more than 400 missile silos across Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado.
Sentinel was rebaselined in 2024 after substantial cost growth, and the Air Force restructured the program in 2025. Initial operating capability has been pushed to the 2030s, with Minuteman III life-extension activities continuing in parallel.
