The Space Development Agency's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture is a rapidly iterated, multi-vendor low-Earth-orbit constellation built on two-year tranche cycles. The Transport Layer delivers low-latency data connectivity for JADC2-style kill-web operations, while the Tracking Layer provides missile warning and missile tracking against hypersonic and advanced ballistic threats.
Tranche 0 launched in 2023 as a warfighter demonstration, Tranche 1 follows with an operational capability of roughly 150 satellites, and Tranche 2 scales further with more diverse payloads. Prime contractors span L3Harris, Northrop Grumman, York Space Systems, Lockheed Martin, Rocket Lab, and Sierra Space, implementing SDA's commercial-style procurement model.
PWSA is the clearest institutional expression of the Space Force's pivot from small numbers of exquisite GEO satellites toward resilient, numerous, and low-cost LEO constellations.
