The P-8A Poseidon is the U.S. Navy's primary maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft, replacing the turboprop P-3C Orion on a one-for-one basis. Built on the 737-800ERX airframe, the Poseidon carries Mk 54 torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, sonobuoys, and a powerful multi-mode maritime radar.
Beyond the U.S. Navy, the P-8 has been exported to Australia, India, the United Kingdom, Norway, New Zealand, Germany, Canada, and South Korea. The aircraft supports the Navy's Triton MQ-4C uncrewed platform and is central to counter-submarine operations against a resurgent Russian submarine force and a rapidly growing PLA Navy.
