The MH-60R Romeo and MH-60S Sierra are the Navy's standardized variants of the Black Hawk family, replacing a wide array of prior naval helicopters. The R-model is optimized for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare with dipping sonar, sonobuoys, Mk 54 torpedoes, and Hellfire missiles; the S-model handles logistics, vertical replenishment, combat search and rescue, and airborne mine countermeasures.
Both variants equip every carrier air wing and surface combatant detachment, and the MH-60R has been widely exported to Australia, Denmark, India, Norway, Saudi Arabia, and others. Sikorsky continues production at Stratford, Connecticut, with service-life assessment and avionics upgrades extending the fleet into the 2040s.
