The M1117 Armored Security Vehicle was a 4x4 wheeled, V-hulled armored vehicle originally designed for U.S. Army Military Police to perform rear-area security, convoy escort, and detainee transport missions. Armament typically included a 40mm Mk 19 grenade launcher and a .50-caliber M2 machine gun in a turret.
Roughly 1,800 vehicles were built by Textron Systems before production ended. The U.S. Army largely divested the M1117 around 2020 as JLTVs and surplus MRAPs absorbed its mission set; retired vehicles have since been transferred to partners including Ukraine, Colombia, and Afghanistan (prior to 2021). The platform remains a good example of a niche Cold-War-era vehicle that proved unexpectedly useful in the Global War on Terrorism.
