The Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 is a mobile ground-based air defense system designed to defeat cruise missiles, unmanned aircraft systems, and rockets/artillery/mortars. Dynetics, a Leidos subsidiary, won the prime system integrator role in 2021 with a solution based on an Oshkosh FMTV truck, an 18-round Multi-Mission Launcher, and an AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel A4 radar.
IFPC launchers currently fire the AIM-9X Sidewinder and the Israeli Tamir interceptor (as adopted from Iron Dome), giving the system magazine depth against saturation UAS attacks. The program fills a critical gap identified after Houthi and Russian drone strikes demonstrated the inadequacy of Patriot and THAAD alone for lower-tier threats.
