The Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle is the U.S. Army's replacement for the M113 inside Armored Brigade Combat Teams. AMPV shares its hull, suspension, and powerpack with the M2 Bradley to simplify logistics inside the ABCT, and is fielded in five mission variants: general purpose, mission command, medical evacuation, medical treatment, and mortar carrier.
Full-rate production was approved in 2023, with BAE Systems manufacturing the vehicles in York, Pennsylvania. AMPV substantially upgrades survivability and electrical-power generation over the M113, accommodating modern digital command-and-control suites and future active protection systems.
