The UH-72 Lakota is the Army's light utility and training helicopter, derived from the commercial Airbus H145 and assembled in Columbus, Mississippi by Airbus Helicopters Inc. The A-model filled a wide range of non-combat missions — MEDEVAC, VIP transport, homeland security, and disaster response — freeing UH-60 Black Hawks for combat theaters.
The newer UH-72B features improved engines, a Fenestron tail rotor, and modernized avionics, and is the primary initial-entry rotary-wing trainer at Fort Novosel (formerly Fort Rucker). More than 480 Lakotas have been delivered to the Army and National Guard.
