Silent Barker is a jointly funded Space Force and National Reconnaissance Office constellation that provides indications and warning of threatening activity in geosynchronous orbit. Unlike the maneuvering inspector GSSAP, Silent Barker uses a persistent staring posture from GEO to catalog and characterize objects of interest across the belt.
The first launch took place in September 2023 aboard an Atlas V, with additional payloads planned later in the decade. Silent Barker is one of the most visible pieces of the broader shift toward treating space as a contested warfighting domain requiring dedicated threat warning and attribution.
