The Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program is a small constellation of maneuverable inspector satellites operating near the geostationary belt. GSSAP spacecraft drift above and below GEO to characterize other objects in the densely trafficked geosynchronous arc, providing optical imaging and rendezvous-and-proximity-operations data to U.S. Space Command.
Six GSSAP satellites have been launched across three pairs, with the first pair reaching initial operational capability in 2015. The follow-on capability is being merged with the classified Silent Barker constellation and new commercially hosted sensors, producing a more resilient and more observant GEO domain-awareness layer.
