The Orca Extra Large Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle is an 85-foot, 80-ton autonomous submarine built by Boeing in partnership with Huntington Ingalls based on the Echo Voyager prototype. It is designed to deploy pier-side, transit more than 6,500 nautical miles, and deliver mine-laying, ISR, anti-submarine, or anti-surface payloads in denied waters without placing a crewed submarine at risk.
The program has worked through cost growth and schedule slips since contract award in 2019, with the first test asset delivered to the Navy in late 2023 and the remaining vehicles in production. Orca is the Navy's leading candidate for the undersea component of its hybrid fleet and the seed of a broader family of autonomous subsurface combatants.
