The F-47 is the U.S. Air Force's sixth-generation manned air-superiority fighter, developed under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program as the successor to the F-22 Raptor. Boeing was awarded the Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract in March 2025, beating Lockheed Martin for the prime role after a competitive source selection.
The F-47 is designed to operate in concert with Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) uncrewed escorts and is expected to combine deep-penetrating range, advanced stealth, and an adaptive-cycle engine. First flight and initial operating capability are targeted for the back half of the 2020s and into the 2030s, with the aircraft serving as the centerpiece of the Air Force's future air-dominance family of systems.
