The F-22 Raptor is a twin-engine stealth air-superiority fighter, the world's first operational fifth-generation combat aircraft. It combines supercruise (sustained supersonic flight without afterburner), low observability, thrust vectoring, and integrated sensor fusion, producing an unmatched air-to-air record in exercises and operational use.
Only 187 production Raptors were built before the program was terminated in 2011. Continuous capability upgrades — most recently enhanced long-range sensors and AIM-260 JATM integration — are extending relevance until the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) system enters service.
