M252 Mortar

The M252 is the U.S. Army and Marine Corps' standard 81mm medium mortar, a licensed derivative of the British L16 design. It is organic to infantry companies, with a typical range of roughly 5,700 meters for high-explosive rounds, and is commonly emplaced in a baseplate or vehicle-mounted in the Stryker Mortar Carrier.

The M252A2 upgrade reduces weight and modernizes the sighting unit to integrate with digital fires networks. Precision-guided 81mm rounds have been fielded in small numbers, and the weapon has been exported widely to U.S. partners.
