The AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar, known as G/ATOR, is the Marine Corps' expeditionary multi-mission radar, replacing five legacy systems with a single gallium-nitride active electronically scanned array mounted on a JLTV-towable trailer. It performs short- and medium-range air surveillance, air defense fire control, counter-battery target acquisition, and air-traffic control depending on the software block loaded.
Block 1 for air surveillance and short-range air defense reached full-rate production in 2018, Block 2 added the counter-fire mission that fires for HIMARS and M777 batteries, and Block 4 integrates the radar with the MRIC (Medium Range Intercept Capability) based on the Iron Dome launcher. G/ATOR is central to the Marine Corps' Force Design 2030 stand-in-force concept that disperses small detachments across contested island terrain.
