Coyote
OEM: Raytheon (RTX)
First Produced: 2007
Status: Active
Role: Tube-launched counter-UAS interceptor
Primary Operator: U.S. Army
OEM Website: rtx.com
The Coyote began life as a small expendable ISR airframe but was reborn under Raytheon as the interceptor half of the Army's Low, Slow, Small UAS Integrated Defeat System (LIDS). The jet-powered Block 2 launches from a tube, cues off the KuRFS radar, and kinetically defeats Group 1 to Group 3 enemy drones, while the Block 3 carries a non-kinetic payload for reusable engagements.
The Army has procured Coyote to counter the exact threat category that has dominated recent fighting in Ukraine and across the Red Sea: cheap one-way attack drones launched in swarms against fixed sites, convoys, and ships. The family has been fielded to Central Command and is a core building block of the Joint Counter-sUAS Office's program of record.
