The B-1B Lancer is a supersonic, variable-sweep-wing heavy bomber originally developed for low-altitude nuclear penetration missions and later converted to a conventional-only role. It carries the largest conventional payload of any U.S. aircraft.
The fleet is being reduced as the B-21 Raider enters service. Remaining B-1Bs have been heavily used in Middle East combat operations since 2001 and continue to receive targeting and communications upgrades.
